NELSPRUIT - Music lovers in the city will  have the opportunity to experience spiritual music in full force when the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) and the Allegro choir perform with world-class pianist, Ms Theresa Prinsloo and baritone, Mr Thabang Senekal, this weekend.
The collaboration between the local Allegro Choir and the renowned JPO has become a tradition on the Lowveld's music calendar with music lovers looking forward to their spring concert every year.
This year will be no different as the programme has the potential to be the choir's best performance yet.
However, the solo performances by Prinsloo and Senekal are numbers that may stand out above the rest and leave enthusiasts with more than just a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.
Senekal is a promising baritone who has taken major strides since he started with vocal training less than 10 years ago.
He was accepted into the Black Tie Ensemble's Incubator Scheme in 2003 and since then he has developed into an internationally acclaimed performer, being chosen as one of the five soloists at the Renée Flemming masterclass in August 2009.
Prinsloo has always been involved with music and passed her BMus degree cum laude at the University of Pretoria in piano and harp. She won several bursaries and continued her studies at the conservatorium of music in Paris. At the moment she is examiner and moderator at the department of music in Gauteng.
Both Senekal and Prinsloo's solos are numbers to look forward to but the accompaniment of the JPO as well as the full force of a 75-member choir is surely something not to be missed. Especially when it is happening in your own backyard and it only happens once a year.
This year's spring concert will take place on Saturday September 4 at 19:30 and Sunday September 5 at 14:00 at the Nelspruit Civic Theatre. School children will be allowed to watch the choir's final rehearsal with the JPO for free on Saturday September 4 at 10:00 in the Civic theatre. However, no children will be allowed to watch the show without adult supervision.
Tickets are R90 per person and are available from the Mbombela Municipality. Buy yours as soon as possible as seats are going fast. Enquiries: Ms Maria Mabuza on 013-759-2099.
