Matsulu receives more promises PDF Print E-mail
Written by Given Gatuso Mkhonto - Thursday, 29 July 2010 16:48
We have been bombarded  with huge promises such as houses, youth empowerment programmes and the bypass bridge to Malalane, but none of these promises have materialised. Even when Fifa president Sepp Blatter announced South Africa as host nation for the Fifa 2010 World Cup, we were yet again left behind.
The Matsulu Stadium was also announced among the three Mbombela stadiums as a training ground during the World Cup, but things suddenly changed when it was  announced that KaNyamazane and KaBokweni were to be the only two stadiums prepared.
What surprises me most is the fact that nothing happened at the two stadiums besides the Chile match held at KaNyamazane Stadium and this clearly shows that it was a strategy used by the corrupt municipality to use the World Cup as a benefiting tool at the expense of those who are paying for services.
Matsulu has two teams which are competing in the Castle regional league  as well as the Sukumani Sidlale Super cup hosted every year as well as 16 teams in the promotional league. Matsulu is well known for a vibrant political history but things have changed for the worse due to  ideological differences, tenderpreneurs, opportunists, physically and mentally lazy comrades who claim to be true politicians, poor management in the local municipal office and the fights over positions within the local branches of the ANC.
The late comrade, Mr Dumisani Mbuli have left a traceable mark for his political stamina and loyalty. His efforts brought former president Nelson Mandela to this very same terrible stadium after his release from jail.  Madiba is now 92 years old and still nothing has been done. Premier Mr David Mabuza has recently visited Matsulu, but his visit was meaningless to me because my biggest question at this stage is what will Mabuza do? He does not see eye to eye with the Mbombela mayor Mr Lassy Chiwayo. A huge part of me believes that Matsulu does not have a committed leader who will perhaps bring change within the community. The youth is ignorant, lazy and more concerned about festivals and partying while things continue to fall. Leaders need to realise that the needs of the people are more important than their inflated egos.
I urge the local ANC branches to come forward and report to us what they have done  in the past 15 years  to influence and change the community.
