NELSPRUIT - A man was apprehended by determined Hi-Tech armed response guards after he allegedly injured and robbed an elderly woman who lives in Steiltes on Friday.
The victim didn’t want to open a police docket out of fear and this meant the suspect was released a few hours later.
According to Mr Vernon Lancaster, manager of Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit, she went to town to do some shopping and upon her  return  the nasty incident occurred.
"She opened her garage door and when she got out of her car the suspect pushed her and stole her handbag and some groceries," he explains.
Two Hi-Tech guards, Messrs Andries Olivier and Sean Seaborne were patrolling the area and heard someone calling for help. They saw someone running from the scene and followed him, says Lancaster.
"The suspect ran into a veld near the dodecahedron  and Seaborne  followed him on foot. Olivier stayed in the vehicle and cut the suspect off near El-Madré Butchery."
The suspect apparently claimed that he was innocent and that he was running away because "everyone chases him".
Lancaster once again reminded homeowners to always be on the lookout for suspicious characters hanging around their property, "criminals especially target older people, so they must be extra vigilant."
