Hilet de Klerk writes: I cannot say whether the recent hit-and-run in front of my house in Wilhelm Street, was the doing of a Wednesday Matumi golfer or not. Neither can the four-month-old Staffordshire puppy that I buried. But, to say that Wilhelm Street, Extension 4 Nelspruit is not considered a normal, residential street on a Wednesday or Friday night but, a freeway/fairway to get home in a hurry, is not an exaggeration. I do not know what speed drivers reach by the time they get to the traffic light in Ferreira Street, but it’s too fast for any bird, cat, dog, child, domestic worker or jogger to get out of the way in time. In general, the persons travelling up and down Wilhelm Street are abnormally agitated, impatient, and increasingly arrogant and rushed. You might be travelling along this street, but HEY! WE LIVE HERE! We also do normal things like trying to get in and out of our driveways safely, and nannies, children, domestic workers, gardeners and cyclists try to get from A to B without being killed. Matumi Golf Course hosts its charity days on Fridays... in order to raise funds for Child Welfare, Hospice, SPCA... the very people and entities using and living in Wilhelm Street. It does not make sense that you as golfer support these charities, but drive like a bat out of hell when you go home in a hurry! The unfortunate puppy had no collar or microchip, so he remains unidentified and reported dead at the Lowveld SPCA.
